About Flinders

FlindersFlinders is a quiet seaside village on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. It is an hour’s drive below Melbourne. Unlike many coastal communities, Flinders has remained relatively non-commercialized.

Originally occupied by Boonwurung natives, the peninsula in the mid-1800s was settled by European farmers and fishers. Flinders became a noted health resort during the 1880s.

Today, historic structures still stand. The general store was built in the late 1800s. The original Anglican vicarage now houses a lavender shop. Visitors enjoy antique markets, galleries, cafes and wineries. Nearby attractions include a national park and historic stone lighthouse.

Flinders is known for its fine beaches and austere ocean cliffs. Varied wildlife, including wallabies and kangaroos, inhabit the Greens Bush forest reserve.

Golfing, boating, surfing, fishing and paragliding are popular activities. Hikes include the Blowhole Walk on the shore, where visitors access interesting boulder platforms at low tide, and a walking track to Bushrangers Bay.

Travelers can select from numerous lodging options in the Melbourne area. The village itself has two motels and several B&Bs and guest cottages.
